One of my favorite blogs, that I have been reading for awhile now is Kitchen Stewardship. Katie writes in a easy to read style and deals with nutrition, eco-living ideas, families, etc. She also publishes some great e-books. About two years ago I bought my first e-book from her, Everything Beans What a great little book.
There are recipes for beans in all ways and forms including Veggie Bean Burritos, Sausage, Beans and Greens Soup, Pasta with White Bean Sauce (one of my favorites), and Black Bean Brownies. You can actually get a free download of the Pasta with White Bean Sauce over at Katie’s sale page.
There are several other e-books that Katie has written. Healthy Snacks to Go has 45 snack recipes like healthy granola bars (another favorite of mine).
Better Than a Box has 35 “resource” recipes for basics like dressings, stuffing mix, cream soups and more, plus 25 ready-to-cook comfort food recipes. It is a;so a tutorial in real food cooking, reverse engineering processed foods, and creative recipe development.
Another book is Smart Sweets. This book has almost 100 recipes, ready for even the novice baker to tackle and enjoy. All the recipes offer options for unrefined, natural sweeteners, and you even get a little primer on what natural sweeteners are available (and which ones you don’t want to bother with)
The newest book from Kitchen Stewardship is The Healthy Lunch Box.
The Healthy Lunch Box: Sandwich-free Secrets to Packing a Real Food Lunch is loaded with strategies to streamline your packing process, stock your pantry with emergency backups for your backups, and send healthy, delicious food in the lunch box, no matter how old your eater is.
And there’s not a sandwich in sight.
Whether you need to pack a healthy lunch for work, school, or lunch on the go anywhere, the portable ideas in The Healthy Lunch Box will inspire you to avoid packaged and processed foods and go with the real thing every day.
Another book is the Family Camping Handbook which is so much more than a recipe book. Of course it does contain a number of great recipes for cooking over a campfire and food to bring with you. But it also has sections on the prepping and packing process, routines to make things go smoothly, camping with kids, and even a section on living with bugs in the wood. This is worth every penny if you are thinking about camping with your family at some point or have a reluctant camper in your household.
And Katie’s newest book is The Healthy Breakfast.
