Daniela Lucero graciously shared her story with me of her weight loss of over 100 pounds in the past year. She has made lifestyle changes that have transformed her life. This is a real accomplishment and I hope you are as inspired by her story as I am.
1) How much weight did you lose and how long did it take you?
I’ve lost a total of 118 pounds started at 266 pounds but intermittent fasting was kind of hard for the first 3 months. I don’t have enough fingers to count how many times I have broken my fasting pattern the first 3 months. I went from 266 to 223 in those first three months, even while breaking a pattern. Then the next nine months i stuck to it and lost 148 pounds. I’m not going to lie. I’ve been stuck at 148 for 4 months lately. i want to be at my ideal weight of 130. I’m only 5 feet 2 inches.
I do not exercise as my body has too many broken bones. I was in a very abusive relationship and food became my comfort. I had broken hands, arms, knees, and broken neck so all i do is walk for exercise. He has passed away and IF (intermittent fasting) gave me my life back.
2) What is your age bracket?
i’m 45.
3) How long did you carry the extra weight?
15 years
4) What did you do to lose weight?
18:6 (18 hours fasting and 6 hours when meals could be eaten. This was done daily. I stuck to it faithfully after the first 3 months.
5) What was your fasting schedule? Was that hard for you to follow?
My schedule is 10 am to 6pm. It was hard to follow because other people were criticizing me that i had an eating disorder and they would make fun of me. Basically others have no respect for people trying to be healthy. I had to ignore them.
6) How did you eat? How strict were you in following this kind of diet?
I just ate clean, no sugars, no gluten. My diet is something in between Keto and paleo with low carbs and high fat.
7) What kind of health benefits or changes have you seen?
I have more energy. There is no more high cholesterol and my blood pressure is normal. And my blood sugars are perfect. I’m off all medications.
8) Did you have support in the process? If so, what kind? If not, how did you manage?
Nope. I had the group asking questions and telling me I had an eating disorder. When hungry i would crochet. i learned to cope and the results speak for themselves
.
9) How long have you kept it off?
4 months (as of March 2018)
10) What are you doing for maintenance?
I’m still trying to shed another 18 lbs so not quite in maintenance. I continue to fast and eat the way I have been for the past year.
11) What is the best part about losing weight and fasting?
Every aspect of my health. Also my self esteem has gone up and I feel better about my self.
12) Anything else you want to add to this that is important to the discussion.
We can all do this. It’s a process. We all have our ups and downs, but if we stay focused we can make real changes. Everytime we give in and we break the fast, we need to get back up and not give up. We all have flaws. We just need to get up the next day after cheating and breaking the fast and start again. It is one day at a time and real change is possible.
