There are lots of different eating plans that take root from year to year. Some of them are simply flash in the pan (remember the grapefruit diet?). Others, however, seem to promise a long-term approach to a different way of eating that may help to make a positive impact on health and well-being.
Two of those are paleo and ketogenic, but the dueling dietary paths are often confused with one another. Lets start with the similarities: Both have a unique focus on meat and wild-caught seafood. Both also emphasize nuts and minimally processed fats, while urging adherents to avoid dairy as well as sugar and refined foods.
The paleo diet, however, purports to encourage people to eat like our ancestors—and not our ancestors in the 1700s but our ancestors centuries ago, when we were hunters and gatherers. So what’s the approach of ketogenic followers, and what should you know before embarking on either one? Use this graphic to find out.
